A blue heron scouts out the Little Lehigh Creek for a meal. Perched on a fallen tree limb and backdropped by the deep green of August foliage and yellow lilies, he flew around the area for a short while before we left it to itself. This image was shot in Allentown's Lehigh Parkway. This is a close up shot to capture the birds beautiful features - long feathers, bright yellow eyes and a beak created to catch fish.
These birds are quite common in our area, but I normally don't see them until the dusk hours when the light is poor. It was a treat to photograph one and he seemed very patient with me and my efforts to photograph him...or her.
